P5: Record the different sound elements
- Recording 1 - The first attempt at recording the scene. I found the actors didn't sound very authentic so I decided to redo this part after giving them some friendly direction.
- Recording 2 - An improved version of the scene. With some house music over the top I think that this clip is ready to be implemented.
- Recording 3 - A seemingly useless snippet.
- Recording 4 - This track took a couple of tries but seems ok now, whilst the actors do sound quite dead at the start I can easily fix that in Audition. The effects that I do verbally are so that when I edit i can scrub through and find exactly where to place my effects.
- Recording 5 - More A Capella noises as well as lots of good vocals and some drunk sounding speech from Fryderyk (the Driver)
- Recording 7 - Directing Gianfranco on how to deliver his line
- Recording 8 - A phone call from Gianfranco with some direction at the start
- Recording 9 - A 'radio' news report of two teens that crashed and died due to drink driving
- Recording 10 Statistics on Drink driving to stop anyone from doing it for real.
P6 - Carry out post production edits to the sound elements.
The first thing that I had to do to create this was to choose and load the audio editing programme I wished to use for my piece of work. This program was in-fact Logic Pro X. I chose to use logic pro as in my opinion it has a very simple GUI and I also have a lot of experience with it so that makes it a perfect choice.
After Logic had loaded I created an audio track for each clip I had and then loaded all of my audio through the file tab as you can see on the left. |
Once I had imported the audio tracks I had to place them all in an order that followed the script. Two tracks on this list, however, are found from a royalty free source as opposed to a recording that I made hence the discrepancy in name. In this editing stage I feel like I should have given the tracks more specialised names so that later on if I had to go back and make further edits I would know what is what, where now I would have to listen to the whole thing again and annotate which track corresponds to which part of the project.
The audio files in yellow are drum machines that I used to simulate House / Jungle music at the party and in the car. I opted to make them myself as opposed to get them from a copyright free source as it gave me more freedom to make the track sound exactly how I want. |
Here is a close up of an audio level slider. This slider allows me to set the overall volume for a whole track. This is very useful to make the whole of the track the right volume and then later on you can fine tune specific parts. But this means that the whole project doesn't change. The track audio has entered the yellow area but is not stretching as far as the red zone. This is very useful as audio that is too loud can cause hearing damage.
Here is where I changed the audio of the news report to make it sound as though it was coming through a radio. To do this I selected a track and then clicked the button on the left. This opens up a list of various effects that I implement to the audio that I had recorded, after experimenting with a couple I chose "Telephone Vocal as I found it made the track sound in my opinion perfect for what I wanted.
