P5: Produce an offline edit of the promo
Once I had finished shooting and offloading all my footage, finally it is time to edit that footage!
I edit using an editing tool called Final Cut Pro X. Often I also use Premiere Pro but I find that for a piece of media like this, Final Cut's display of easy to access effects are incredibly useful.
Here is my editing screen after I cut the shots to roughly where I want them to be. The only true edits I made where when I sped up some clips but that is only so that they can beat match the music that is layered underneath.
I never delete clips that aren't in use I only layer them, this is because I find it far more useful and I can easily see what I am working with when I quickly need a new shot. |
P6: Carry out post-production processes to edit the audio-visual material to produce the final product
Having my offline edit lined up on the editing program I could easily add the effects and titles that I looked forward to producing. Thus I started editing.
The music that makes the bed for the music video is a track I composed myself called Possil Fleet. The name a reference and tribute to the recently deceased Jake Black of the Alabama 3. This is because those were his last words, himself coming from Possil Glasgow. On the left you can see me typing that into a title generator on Final Cut. This was added to the track and makes the intro of the video.

Next came adding actual effects to clips, as you watch both the offline and the final version of this you will notice that there have been many edits before the final version. One major theme is that every time we cut to seagulls I changed the colour and exposure of the clips to create a strange psychedelic effect. I also added a Zoom effect to all shots of studio items. This is to make it more like a POV shot of the studio from The Soldier.
